In a major push towards sustainable living and environmental conservation, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has officially announced the "Environment Awareness and Green Pledge Competition 2026" under the state's ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan’. This dynamic initiative aims to maximize civic consciousness and empower the citizens of Thane to actively participate in hands-on environmental conservation.
Who Can Participate? The competition is exclusively open to entities located within the TMC jurisdiction and is divided into four distinct categories: Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Colleges, TMC Schools, and Private Schools. To ensure widespread engagement and fair evaluation, participants will be judged across three tiers—municipal level for NGOs, zonal level for colleges, and ward committee level for schools.
Institutions will undergo a self-assessment evaluation process spread across two distinct submission phases:
Phase 1 Deadline: March 25, 2026
Phase 2 Deadline: August 20, 2026 The final grand results will be declared on September 7, 2026, marking the International Clean Air Day.
Key Activities and The 'Green Pledge': Each category has unique action plans to follow.
NGOs are challenged to produce impactful Marathi-language reels (60–90 seconds) or documentaries (3–5 minutes) highlighting critical themes such as the single-use plastic ban, dry waste collection, composting, and the use of eco-friendly firecrackers.
Colleges are mandated to appoint either 10% of their total student body or a minimum of 200 students as ‘Environment Ambassadors’ (Paryavaran Doot) to spearhead local green campaigns. Furthermore, all participating TMC and private schools must execute at least five practical green initiatives like seed ball collection, e-waste awareness, 'No Horn' campaigns, or tree planting. Across all submissions and physical events, it is strictly mandatory to display the logos of the TMC and the Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan (MVA).
An essential pillar of the competition is the Green Pledge (E-Pledge). Participants must register their pledge online via the Majhi Vasundhara portal, making sure to select "Thane Municipal Corporation" as their Urban Local Body (ULB). However, merely taking the pledge is not enough; participants must complete matching eco-friendly actions and upload geo-tagged photographic evidence to their social media pages to secure points.
Substantial Cash Rewards To incentivize robust community action, the TMC is offering highly attractive cash prizes. At the municipal level, winning NGOs will receive ₹1,00,000 for first place, ₹75,000 for second, and ₹50,000 for third, alongside consolation prizes. Colleges competing at the zonal level can also secure a top prize of ₹1,00,000. Winning schools at the ward committee level will be awarded first-place prizes of ₹25,000.
Interested institutions can complete their registration using the dedicated Google Forms provided by the corporation. For more detailed guidelines, citizens are highly encouraged to visit the official website at www.thanecity.gov.in or reach out via email at pcctmc.ho@gmail.com.
